Bibliology is the theological study of the Bible. It focuses on the nature, origin, and authority of the Scriptures rather than just analyzing the stories or historical events within them.
The important pillars are
1. Revelation: God’s act of communicating truths to humanity that would otherwise remain unknown.
2. Inspiration: The Holy Spirit guiding human authors to record God’s Word accurately through their own styles.
3. Canonization: The process of recognizing and collecting the specific books authorized as Holy Scripture.
4. Textual Criticism: It is the academic discipline of comparing ancient manuscripts to ensure the modern Bible is as close to the original writings as possible.
The Bible is divided into two sections: the Old Testament (39 books), written mostly in Hebrew and Aramaic, covering creation and the history of Israel; and the New Testament (27 books), written in Koine Greek, focusing on the life of Jesus and the early Church.
Bibliology is not just about reading the Bible; it is the study of why we trust it as a source of truth and how it came to be in its current form.
Memory Verse: Isaiah 40.8
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
