இந்திய ஜெப புத்தகம் தமிழ் வரிவடிவத்தில் (ஆங்கிலத் தலைப்புகளுடன்) எழுதப்பட்டு, 1885-ஆம் ஆண்டு இந்தியாவில் அச்சிடப்பட்டு வெளியிடப்பட்டது. டேவிட் கிரிஃபித்ஸின் Bibliography of the Book of Common Prayer பட்டியலில் இது இடம்பெறவில்லை என்றாலும், 1895-இல் அச்சிடப்பட்ட அவருடைய 169:17 என்ற பதிப்பை மிகவும் ஒத்துள்ளது.
அந்தப் புத்தகம் (அநேகமாக இந்தப் புத்தகமும்கூட) அருள்திரு ஜே. எல். (ஜோசப் லைட்) வையாட் தலைமையிலான ஒரு குழுவால் மொழிபெயர்க்கப்பட்டது. மேலும் இது அவரது மாமனாரும் பிரபல தமிழ் மொழியியலாளருமான ஆயர் ராபர்ட் கால்ட்வெல்லின் முந்தைய மொழிபெயர்ப்புகளை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டது எனக் கருதப்படுகிறது.
கீழே உள்ள பொருளடக்கத்தின் மூலம் தெரியவருவது போல, இந்த மொழிபெயர்ப்பு Book of Common Prayer நூலின் பெரும்பாலான பகுதிகளை உள்ளடக்கியுள்ளது. இந்தப் புத்தகம் xxxiv + 522 + 8 பக்கங்களைக் கொண்டு, 8 x 5.25 அங்குல அளவைக் கொண்டுள்ளது.
The Prayer Book is written in Tamil script (with English titles), and was published and printed in India in 1885. It is not listed in David Griffiths' Bibliography of the Book of Common Prayer, but is quite similar to his 169:17, printed in 1895. That book (and presumably this one also) was translated by a committee headed by the Rev. J. L. (Joseph Light) Wyatt, and was likely based on previous translations by his father-in-law, Bp. Robert Caldwell, a well-known Tamil linguist.
This translation includes nearly the entire Book of Common Prayer, as may be seen by the Table of Contents below. The book contains xxxiv + 522 + 8 pages and measures 8 x 5.25".
