During the first World War, a village in Somme valley of France was very badly affected by bomb shells and blasts. The hospitals and houses were severely damaged. The village church was the only big building standing tall and therefore all wounded people were brought to the Church for dressing, medication, amputation etc. A handsome youngman of the village was brought there as his one leg was almost blown off. The doctor used the Church Altar table as the operating table. The doctor told the youngman, "You'll have to be very brave today, because the operation is going to be very painful as we don't have any anaesthesia left after the destruction of the hospital." The youngman looked at the Altar where there was the Cross and the Lord Jesus was lying crucified on it. He said to the doctor, "Sir, you operate on my leg. I can bear this little pain as I am looking at the Cross and thinking of how much pain my Lord Jesus had borne for me when he was nailed to the Cross. I believe I will be alright soon." The doctor operated him successfully without any anaesthesia and the youngman bore all his pains looking at the Cross of Jesus.
Lesson: The Cross of our Lord Jesus helps us to forget about all of our pains and bear all kinds of our sufferings bravely.
