Theodoret of Cyrus (c393-466 AD), the Bishop, Theologian and a Bible commentator, wrote how the Cross of Christ was discovered in 326 AD by Saint Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor, Constantine the Great. The story says, when she went for a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, she saw the place where the Saviour suffered. So she immediately ordered the idolatrous temple, which was erected there, to be destroyed and removed. When they removed the temple and dug the place they found three crosses near the Lord’s sepulchre. Everyone began to believe that one of those crosses was that of Lord Jesus Christ and that the other two were those of the bandits who were crucified with Him. But they could not discern to which of the three the Lord was crucified and outpoured His precious Blood. Saint Helena was in a dilemma regarding which could be the true Cross of Christ. The story concluded that at last the true cross was identified and confirmed when its touch miraculously healed a dying patient.
Lesson: The Cross of Christ and it's message is the power of God to those who carry it daily.
