The Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Synod will mark its 25th anniversary with a silver jubilee celebration.
Brief History of the Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Synod
All the Churches within Ri Bhoi area were under the Shillong Presbytery prior to the year 1950. In the year 1950 the Shillong Presbytery was bifurcated into Presbyteries, namely, the Shillong Ri War Presbytery and the Shillong Ri Bhoi Presbytery. In 1971, the Shillong Ri Bhoi Presbytery was then bifurcated into Shillong Ri Lum Presbytery and Ri Bhoi Presbytery.
After 22 years of its existence, the Ri Bhoi Presbytery was further bifurcated into two Presbyteries, namely, the Ri Bhoi Mihngi Presbytery and the Ri Bhoi Sepngi Presbytery. In the year 1994 the two Presbyteries unanimously resolved to form the Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Synod. An overture was sent to the K.J.P. Synod and the same was recommended to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of India. In 1996, the Presbyterian Church of India resolved to grant the Provisional Synod for a period of two years. In 1998, a full-fledged Synod was granted by the Presbyterian Church of India which was inaugurated on 27th September, 1998 by the then Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of India, Rev.Jathanga Ngirsim.
